When it comes to renting a Cornish Cottage or hiring a cornish cottage...
There is nothing to compare with a Cornish holiday; the rugged beauty of the coastal path, the delightful hustle and bustle of the fishing village, the amazing white sandy beaches and the surfing. Cornwall is perfect for a retreat, a family beach holiday and a mad surfing adventure with your buddies. And for every holiday there is a perfect cottage.
Choosing your Cornish Cottage... Location location location...
Of course we all know that, but think about what it is you want from your holiday cottage. The cottages with sea views and access to the best beaches cost more but make surfing or getting the children to the beach easy and stress free. But perhaps you would rather be nestled in the lush vegetation that flourishes particularly on the south coast. A haven for those with an interest in gardening or even an interest in drinking chilled wine in a pleasant garden. The north of Cornwall is more accessible if the journey to Cornwall is slightly daunting, but the discoveries that you will make in the south usually justify the extra journey time.Choosing your Cornish Cottage... Size.
Cornish cottages usually 'come up small' so don't be tempted to skimp on size. Sleeps 4 might not really be that comfortable if your 4 are of a reasonable size and if they have soggy sandy wet suits in tow! Think minimal, rustic and basic but also think simplicity and absolute beauty. I would suggest that even in summer you take some nice warm clothes as many cottages have 'money in the slot' heating and I have often been chilly. Perhaps in the winter take some thick socks and jumpers, to snuggle in your fisherman's loft!
Choosing your Cornish Cottage... Catering.
Decide honestly whether you want to cook! If yes, then do check that the kitchen has reasonable facilities. I have found that sometimes there is not more than a couple of rings, a saucepan and a corkscrew (thank goodness for the corkscrew). Catering for children is usually very feasible and simple food can be done but if fine dining is part of your thing then check carefully. If no, then check that your cottage is not in the back of beyond as you will want to pop out to dine or at least get a take-away. Of course Cornwall has some very famous restaurants but be aware that some are booked months (or even years) in advance so don't assume that you will get a table. Of course the fish in Cornwall is amazing and so the Cornish pasties - a lovely treat after a busy day. And also think 'Jamie' and perhaps do some interesting BBQ menus weather permitting.
